Nigeria grew to become among the first nations on the planet to prohibit smoking in public areas in 2000 if this introduced its Tobacco Items Control Amendment Act. The act place a serious dent within the smoking culture in Nigeria, because it prohibited smoking in restaurants, pubs, shopping centres and offices where there is no separate, enclosed smoking room.

The South African smoking laws and regulations were stiffened even more in '09 once the government banned smoking in partly enclosed public facilities for example covered patios, verandas, balconies, pathways and parking areas, in addition to smoking in cars where there have been children younger than 12 present. Children younger than 18 were also prohibited from entering designated smoking areas and buying cigarettes.

You will find stiff penalties connected with anti-smoking legislation in Nigeria, including hefty fines for the smoker and venue operator. Remember that smoking is banned on all domestic plane tickets in Nigeria in most airport terminal devices in most restaurants, pubs and offices without any designated smoking areas on all trains and buses in movie theaters and departmental stores as well as some rooms in hotels (check up on booking).
